Owner of 4 large Berthe Hess paintings and 5 miniatures since 1971.I was fortunate to have known Berthe, her husband Adolf and their daughter Desiree and to have been a personal friend since 1970. I am even more fortunate to have had the privilege of owning a number of Berthe’s major works which have adorned the walls of my residences for the last 38 years. Her paintings are addictive and have become an integral part of my life and I enjoy them every day.
Her exceptional and intricate painting method leaves me in total awe as to her ability to create brilliant and unique three dimensional masterpieces. Each of her paintings is one of a kind, with a life of its own, altering at every angle and distance viewed. Her paintings have been a great source of joy! As a painter, Berthe Hess is in the league of the great masters – her works enthral the senses and are both inspirational and priceless.

I am a relatively new fan of "Bertisme". In 2001 I was offered what I considered to be 2 unusual paintings. Over the next three weeks I found it very difficult to find anything other than very basic information about this artist called Berthe Hess but felt compelled to buy the paintings not for the original investment but because I was intrigued with the style of painting and the aforementioned basic but interesting information about the artist. Since then I’ve been fortunate to purchase 2 more paintings and meet and speak with other collectors and friends and relations of Berthe Hess including her daughter Mauricette Hess (Désirée) and now find myself a keen and fascinated collector of Berthe Hess.

I’m a cynical old person with a lifelong passion & adoration for art. I was studying art history when I was in my early teens. I moved to Europe for many reasons, and one of them was to be able to visit as many great works of art as possible. I am not easily impressed, and this artist impresses me. Her works blow me away and make me sad that I haven’t seen them before but now I have, so thank you.
Berthe Hess paintings are incredible, stunning and unique and shouldn’t be hiding in a private living room! These remarkable treasures need to be in a public museum, for all to see!
These extraordinary works of art should belong to either the Fondation Maeght in Paris / Saint Paul de Vence, the Fondation Cartier or Fondation Louis Vuitton as they are appreciative of modern and contemporary French artists.
I have owned 2 ballerina paintings by Berthe Hess all of my life and it gives me great satisfaction to see my daughters love the paintings as much as I do. Up close the paintings are a riot of colour and motion but step away and the figure of the ballerina reveals itself, gracefully suspended amongst all the noise and contrast. And on my table this week, I found a painting my 11 year old daughter did to try and replicate Berthe’s style (think lots of leaving it to dry in front of the fan)! Her paintings are inspirational, unusual and evocative.
